Gravity is the attraction between mass and energy, shaping the motion of falling objects, planets, stars, galaxies, and the universe itself.

A simple example

When you toss a ball upward, Earth pulls it back down. The same gravity that returns the ball also keeps the Moon circling Earth and the planets traveling around the Sun.

Newton described gravity as a universal attraction between masses and showed mathematically how it governs falling objects and planetary orbits. Einstein later explained gravity more deeply through general relativity: mass and energy curve spacetime, and objects follow paths through that curved geometry. Gravity gathers matter into stars and galaxies, controls the motion of planets and moons, and influences the expansion and structure of the universe. Scientists still do not have a complete quantum theory of gravity, and the hypothetical graviton has never been observed.
